Travel to Salzburg

Because of its central location in mainland Europe, Salzburg can be reached easily by air, train or car.

By plane

Salzburg Airport is on the outskirts of the city – only four kilometers from the city centre. There are direct flights from many European cities, including Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hannover, Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt, Leipzig-Halle, Amsterdam, Vienna, Paris, London, Manchester, Stockholm and Zurich. Travellers from outside Europe will find transfers through Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Vienna, Istanbul and other European hubs.

There are also regular train services from Munich airport.

Salzburg

Travel by bus from Salzburg Airport:

Take line 10 direction Sam and exit at Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz. Change to line 7 and ride to stop Ernst-Grein-Straße. Cross the street and follow the sidewalk to the intersection Ernst-Grein-Straße. Follow the signs from here to St Virgil.

Munich
The distance between Munich Airport and Salzburg is about 200 km.
Taxi: See below
Train: Take the S-Bahn S8 to Munich Ostbahnhof (33 min) and a train to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (1.5 hours).   It is also an option to travel via Munich Hauptbahnhof using the S-Bahn S1 but this is a little slower.  Total cost approximately €41.00.

Vienna
The distance between Vienna Airport and Salzburg is about 300 km.
Taxi: See below
Train: Take the bus 1187 to Vienna Westbahnhof (45 min) and then the train to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof  (2.5-3 hours); total cost approximately €50.00.

By train

Train: From Salzburg main station with S-Bahn (S3) dircetion Golling/Abtenau to the Parsch station. Short walk along the Park, Ziegelstadel­straße approx. 700 m to St. Virgil.

Bus – Option 1: From Salzburg main station with lines 3, 5, or 6 direction Zentrum (city center) until the Mozartsteg stop. Change to line 7 and ride to stop Ernst-Grein-Straße. Cross the street and follow the sidewalk to the intersection Ernst-Grein-Straße. Simply follow the signs from here to St. Virgil.

Bus – Option 2: From the main station, take line 6 direction Zentrum/Parsch and exit at the Joseph-Messner-Straße stop. Walk along Joseph-Messner-Straße, beside the park (Preuschenpark), and then right on Ziegelstadel­straße, approximately 800 meters to St. Virgil

By car

The city is easily accessible by car, and is connected by motorway with Vienna and Munich.
